Hero and Companion: Inca Girl

This was a brief I worked on in my 3rd year of university. The brief was for a hero and companion design, complete with an illustration of them both. My main inspiration here was Disney. I wrote up a quick storyline for a loveable, well-meaning underdog main character, and the quest she is sent on (mostly to stay out of the way) with her loveable comic relief llama companion.

To get the style just right, I first did a lot of studies and an in-depth look at the facial proportions that Disney typically uses for their characters. I then move onto researching a bit about Inca history, traditional costumes, how they wrote and ceremonial costume. These all inspired the following design:
