F.A.E.R.Y Characters
The F.A.E.R.Y team structure follows the three categories of hero in Overwatch 2: Tank, Damage and Support. Each of the F.A.E.R.Ys belongs to one of these sections.
In Order of Seniority:
IRIS: Team Captain. Damage. Iris has Hard Light based powers, is from an alien planet and wields two futuristic weapons that she can manipulate using her powers to her advantage. She is reliable, smart and devoted. She was the F.A.E.R.Y poster child.
LYSSA: Second in Command. Tank. Lyssa is human and has no powers. She is rebellious and fun. She is also the ship’s mechanic and engineered herself a prosthetic cyber gun arm that operates like a shotgun, with an unstable atom as a power source.
DRUID: Support. Druid is gentle, caring and friendly. She is the ship’s healer and botanist. Her powers are healing and promote growth of organic matter. She has a small robotic companion, engineered by Lyssa in the shape of a ladybug. The bug can attach to the F.A.E.R.Ys’ jetpacks and give them a boost of power and healing energy.
To make sure this project was well-rounded, and to open avenues to build more on this later, I had to make sure I designed all the key components. In Overwatch 2, each hero usually has 3-4 abilities and an ultimate besides their main attack.
I work on these abilities more later, but the first thing I had to consider was 'what is their main attack?' For my damage character I knew this had to be something formidable, and that could do a lot of damage to enemies, so I felt due to her shape language that some type of futuristic sword was the way to go. The tank I felt benefited a lot from a slower, bulkier weapon - like an atomic shotgun arm. In the script, I describe more why this comes in the shape of a high-tech prosthetic arm.
My healer was never going to be a character that focuses on damage. She doesn't even wear a lot of armour, choosing streamlined, essential elements like the jetpack and soft, nurse - like outfits with practical fabrics. She is more like a field medic. Being connected to nature, her abilities come from inherited, enhanced abilities already attributed to her race - almost like magic. So for her, I chose a little mechanical bug that attaches to the jetpacks of the other FAERYs and gives them a boost - the origin of I explain in the script / back story.
